Two students to visit LEAP school in South Africa

Based in South Africa, the LEAP school was set up by a group of educators, learners, parents, community leaders, volunteers and specialists who are passionate about providing an education for the poorest children from the townships and rural areas. There are three schools catering for approximately 500 children and the values at the heart of LEAP are:

  • Being kind, honest and healthy
  • Being punctual and looking good
  • Working hard and never giving up
  • Admitting and learning from mistakes
  • Confronting issues and being open to change
  • Working together and sharing

Mr Trevis and pupils, through Library events and fund raising, have forged a special relationship with LEAP and particularly Jenni Copeland, one of their teachers. As a consequence, an opportunity has arisen for two Millfield pupils to visit the school for a short time in February where they will be “loved and looked after”, where “tasks for them will not be a problem” and where they “will grow enormously.”So while the rest of us are battling winter chills, two students will be off to enjoy hot sunny weather and to enjoy the warm, uniquely earthy smell of the air after an  African thunderstorm.
